The art of faux painting has been around for centuries. Faux painting is a layering process. The interesting concept about faux painting is that it looks very bad before it looks very good. The process can longer than simply painting a solid color on a wall. For instance the process to faux finishing cabinetry is a nine step process. As such, it is not a process for the unskilled or do-it-yourself painter. Faux painting is an art. The skills of shading, blending mixing, and design, are involved. Faux painting is all in the details.
Faux painting walls
There are endless products available to faux painters for an array of projects and applications. There are metallic products and stone products for example. "Back in the day" sponge painting and rag rolling were considered faux finishing techniques. We've come a long way baby! Many of our faux finishes today are troweled on with a stainless steel trowel. These techniques are skill and labor intensive. Working with authentic Italian plaster is extremely intense. The French call it "waiting until it's in love with the wall" then the burnishing process starts and that is applied to a high sheen.
Faux Painting Training and Skills
A good faux painter will have an artistic background and at least 5 to 7 years of experience. A faux painting professional needs to be exceptionally detail oriented. A painter cannot just become a faux finishing expert. Many times they don't have the attention to detail.
What sets Walls by Macaluso apart from others is this: we are the owners and we do the painting. There are companies in Kansas City, where the individual who meets the client is not the person who does the actual faux finishing for the project. Many times the client is unaware that this will happen.
